The Middle

Sometimes I love the middle.
I love the middle of a good book
that I just can't put down,
I love the creamy middle of a devil dog
especially right out of the freezer!
I love the middle of a perfect summer day,
sunny, breezy, not a care in the world.
But mostly I love the middle of a great lesson,
little brains engaged and interacting.

Sometimes I hate the middle,
I hate the middle of the night
when the bad dreams wake me.
I hate the middle of an argument
that I know I can't win.
But mostly I hate being in the middle of two people
who I love but who just can't get along.

  1. Diane,

This is such a short piece, but it is very strong in its content. I think it could be the introduction to a longer piece if you wanted it to be. I think it was really intriguing how you began seeming kind of light and airy, talking about the middle of a devil dog and then quickly turned more serious in your writing. You captured my attention tremendously with your last line about being between to people who "just can't get along", I think this is a very relatable topic and who love to see you be able to explore this topic more if you are lead to.

  2. I agree, this piece intrigues me and I would like to see more. "In the middle" is an interesting concept, what made you think of it? Are you a middle child?
